Comix Influx Blog: Moomintroll and the Chinese Censors
by Stephen Betts (thisisstephenbetts) on 27th April 2010
Picking up from Christian Maiwald’s post on the Reprodukt blog (and sadly relying on Google Translate), Chinese authorities have objected to a play involving the Moomins to be shown at the World Expo in Shanghai. The reasons cited are that ’”a distinction between good and evil” is not sufficient, and “one of the characters too individualistic,”’, which, paraphrasing Google paraphrasing Reprodukt, outlines a part of the charm of Tove Jansson’s stories fairly well.
Poor Moomintroll – but I’m sure he will prevail!
