Comix Influx Blog : RAW exhibit from Angoulême 2012
Here’s a selection of photographs, taken at the RAW subsection of Art Spiegelman’s Musée Privée, which was shown in the Musée de la Bande Desinée at the 2012 Angoulême Festival.

Comix Influx Blog : Spiegelman's Angoulême
Art Spiegelman’s presidency of the Angoulême Festival was hotly anticipated, and he did not disappoint. For a man with such a serious and formidable reputation, his festival was wonderfully light and fun, while continually reminding you of just what heights the artform is capable of achieving.
The exhibitions…

Comix Influx Blog : Angoulême 2012
Only a couple of days to go until Angoulême 2012 kicks off, and it’s all set up to be a brilliant year.

Firstly, of course, the President is Art Spiegelman. Not just one of the foremost comics creators in the history of the artform, but also one of its foremost thinkers. Anticipation is high to see what he is bringing to Angoulême 2012.
Three exhibitions in particular hint at Spiegelman’s affiliation with the comics Avante Garde.

Comix Influx Blog : A très bientôt avec L'Apocalypse
Jean-Christophe Menu’s announcement of L’Apocalypse in French (his English translation here ):
RESUME
Le 10 janvier 2011, la “masse salariale” de L’Association (qui n’aurait pas pu s’appeler ainsi si je ne m’étais pas moi-même fait licencier de L’Asso par le Bureau en mars 2010) se mettait en grève pour protester contre le projet de décroissance, et donc de réduction de deux à trois postes sur sept, que la direction et moi-même avions jugé indispensable pour la survie de la structure. Le stand vide à Angoulême avec la banderole “en grève” et…

Comix Influx Blog : 'See you soon at the Apocalypse'
From the desk of Jean-Christophe Menu (French version here):
ABSTRACT (please forgive my rough english)
If in France people had it hard to understand what happened at L’Association the last months, I can’t imagine the incomprehensible mess it could have been felt from abroad. January 10th 2011 began a strike from the staff, so-called “masse salariale” (employees mass), a term they couldn’t have used if I didn’t make myself fired by the Bureau in march 2010, anticipating the problems to come. The staff was protesting against the need of decreasing…

Comix Influx Blog : Lebanese Comics at Laydeez Do Comics!
An excellent night at Laydeez Do Comics last night, with Andrew Godfrey (whom I missed through my lateness, sadly), Katie Green, Charles Hatfield and Joumana Medlej.
Comix Influx Blog : Jean-Christophe Menu leaves L'Association
Below is the text of Jean-Christophe Menu’s letter detailing his reasons for leaving L’Association – the seminal French publisher that he co-founded, shaped and finally led for several years.
Their recent tribulations have been very well publicised, due in part to the massive influence that L’Association has had on the Franco-Belgian comics scene in the last 20 years. It is no exaggeration to say that what they achieved changed the face of European comics. And Jean-Christophe Menu was a huge, huge part of that.
I’ll try to sort out some sort of translation on the site very soon. In the…

Comix Influx Blog : London Small Press Expo
:http://ellenlindner.livejournal.com/51358.html
Had a nice time at the Comics and Small Press Expo on Saturday. Peter Stanbury was pointing out that in the old days of Fast Fiction they had one table for small press stuff in a hall as big as the one that was now filled with small press comics. Very nice to see.
The venue at Goldsmith’s was really nice, although a touch harder to get to than the Queen Mary College where the “Thing” (this expo’s most obvious ancestor) was held. Maybe that contributed to slightly lower turn out – a few people said that the day had…

Comix Influx Blog : Angoulême 2011

Before arriving at the 2011 Angoulême Festival all the excited talk was about L’Association – would they be there at all? would they be selling books? Would they fold totally, or maybe sack their staff? Would Jean-Christophe Menu, their iconic editor-in-chief leave? Their success and influence over the last 20 years, meant that all independent publishers would be following very closely what was going on at L’Association.
For the first two days of the festival, the L’Asso table – as in the last few years, occupying pride of place…

Comix Influx Blog : Angoulême, here we come!
So Angoulême 2011 is just about here I’ll be referring to Paul Gravett’s guests’ best international comics of 2010 extensively.
With any luck, I’ll be tweeting the festival again – I’ll use either #angou2011 or #fibd, perhaps both. I’m hoping to do more photo tweets this year – we’ll see what the connectivity’s like in Poitou-Charentes.
And I hope to run in to some friends of Comix Influx there. I’m sure I’ll be in Le Chat Noir at some point most evenings!

Comix Influx Blog : L'Asso Strike: JC Menu responds
:http://lassociation.fr
Following news of a strike at French comics independent giant L’Association, Jean-Christophe Menu has responded with a combative press release:
Vous avez certainement pris connaissance des événements qui se
déroulent actuellement à l’Association, par le biais des
communications adressées massivement par ses salariés. Nous déplorons
que ce qui relève de la gestion interne de l’Association ait été
communiqué publiquement.
Dans le contexte que vous…

Comix Influx Blog : Ego Comme X does POD
Our friends at Ego Comme X have started selling print-on-demand books with LES SŒURS ZABÎME by the late Aristophane.
This is a great move, particularly for smaller publishers who can’t always afford to keep their back catalogue in print. As you probably know, Ego Comme X are the far-sighted publishers that have put English translations of Émile by Fabrice Neaud, and La Meilleure du Monde by Pauline Martin up on…
