About This Book
I’m translating the French L’Intégrale volume collecting the first four books in the series, after which I’ll try the next three from German. The translations will be idiomatic rather than literal, and as my French isn’t great anyone’s welcome to improve on what I turn out. As I’m using L’Intégrale the numbering refers to story page numbers rather than book page numbers.
The books concern Kim Nelson, a young woman wanting to discover the story of an Ottoman ancestor in Turkey on the cusp of great changes immediately before World War One. Along the way she discovers a lot about herself, and a lot about mysterious goings on in the Sultan’s harem. I’d guess the book is rated adult as there’s no shortage of nudity, and sex, but while undeniably erotic, Djinn is more than an excuse for exciting pubescent boys. The first volume is available via rapidshare from 17ebook.com, but as it’s not widely known I’m starting from the beginning.

[1:1] I’m investigating a genie, a shadow, that of my grandmother.
[1:2] My roots as well, I suppose. It’ll be a long journey, one from which I’ll not return intact. One never returns intact from an encounter with a genie.
[1:3] Kémal: I’ve not found anything.
Kim: But you promised me…
I know. The dossiers are missing information. I’ve asked among my colleagues in vain. None of them can help me.
[1:4] Kim: Okay. Who should I talk with now?
Kémal: I know a bookshop in the old town, Chez Thesos. He has very rare old documents. It’s surprising what one can discover there sometimes.
[1:5] Kémal: Who knows? He could advise us.
Kim: We could give it a try, but it’s not encouraging.
Page 2
[2:1] Kémal: I’ll keep you informed. We could meet at your hotel.
Kim: I’d prefer not to. Leave a message with the concierge. He’ll pass it on.
[2:2] This bookshop.I can find it without him.
[2:3] The map’s at the hotel.
[2:4] I’d benefit by taking a shower.
[2:5] Ibram: Chez Thesos isn’t the best address.
[2:6] Kim: What?
Ibram: There’s a better way to obtain the information. I think the photo I found in your bag…
[2:7] Kim: My bag! You… You’ve…
Ibram: Do you remember someone jostling you when you came in.
[2:8] Ibram: I was looking for something else, but this belongs to you I believe.
Page 3
[3:1] Kim: You’re nothing but a thief. And you dare…
Ibram: I dare you to allow me some time. My time is precious. This photo. It’s the start of a trail for you.
[3:2]Ibram: I don’t care about your motives. I rarely concern myself with others, but I want to help you with this quest.
[3:3] Ibram: The man pictured here is Sultan Murati is it not?
[3:4] Kim: The Black Sultan, yes. You can tell me something about him?
Ibram: I can pass on what I’ve learned from books, but I presume you want to know more.
[3:5] Ibram: I’ll look for you tonight at your hotel. Make yourself beautiful. We’re going to visit Lady Fazila’s brothel.
[3:6] But…!!
[3:7] Ibram: Who… Who told you where I’m staying?
Page 4
[4:1] I was troubled. I should have slapped that man, sent him packing. Instead, that same night in my hotel bedroom…
[4:2] Instead I surprised myself by waiting. And when the telephone rang I simply responded
Kim: I’m ready, I’ll come down.
[4:3] Ibram: I didn’t know this place. It’s charming.
Kim: Isn’t it.
[4:4] I’ve not yet said. My name is Malek, Ibram Malek.
Kim: A name known to the police I suppose.
[4:5] Ibram: The police, and others. Are you ready?
Kim: Ready for what?
[4:6] To sell yourself, dear friend.
Page 5
[5:1] Strip.
[5:2] Kim: What are you asking?
Ibram: If you want to go back in time, you can’t cheat. You need to show yourself as you are.
[5:3] You’ll be judged body and soul, but I believe that you can pull through. And besides, I’ll be there with you.
[5:4] But where are we now?
Ibram: In the old quarter. It was an old steam bath before Lady Fazila established herself here.
[5:5] Change here. I’ll be back in five minutes.
[5:6] I’m mad. I should flee as quickly as I can.
Page 6
[6:1] Lady Fazila: That’s right I know someone who could help you.
[6:2] Lady Fazila: But why are you interested in the Black Sultan? His name has long been forgotten.
Kim: Because he played an important part in the years leading to the first World War.
[6:3] Kim: But the history books don’t mention him.
Ibram: All those who were interested in or close to the Black Sultan died violent deaths. Our historians are wise men.
[6:4] Perhaps. One of my ancestors worked for the sultan. Or perhaps more.
[6:5] Yes?
[6:6] She belonged to his harem. She was one of the Ottoman favourites.
[6:7] Excuse me a moment.
Page 7
[7:1] Liana, a client is asking for you. Use the blue room.
[7:2] Lady Fazila: I must ask you to stay. Muslim wants to occupy himself with you.
Kim: But
[7:3] Trust him. Go. Passing between Muslim’s hands is a privileged moment for any woman.
[7:4] Appreciate it.
[7:5] Remove your robe, please.
[7:6] You’re extremely tense. Relax.
[7:7] You. Come with me.
Page 8
[8:2] Yali, it’s for you. To the bedroom with birds.
[8:4] Ozou to the ebony bedroom.
[8:8] Kim. Kim Nelson.
Page 9
[9:1] How?
[9:2] You’re asking how someone could have chosen you.
[9:3] The rosette bedroom.
[9:4] What? Who has…
[9:5] I’ll ignore it, but I sense…
[9:6] Trouble.
Kémal: I followed you.
[9:7] I didn’t expect us to meet here, I confess. I hesitated, but then I said to myself, “don’t let this opportunity slip”.
[9:8] You would appear naked, like all the women who work for Lady Fazila.
[pp:10}
[10:1] I don’t work for Lady Fazila. I don’t believe I possess the necessary talents. She’s helping me obtain certain information that…
[10:2] Others can acquire you. I told you about Thesos. He’s also interested into those near to the court of the Black Sultan. He wants to meet you as soon as possible.
[10:3] Kim: I regret I’m not available at the moment.
Kémal: Really?
[10:4] You forget that it’syou who came to me. I’ve invested a lot in this business. You’ve thrown a stone into still waters and the ripples have spread. You’ve now taken on…
[10:5] Kim: Taken on what?
Kémal: Your past. The questions you’re asking about this past. But I assure you…
[10:6] We’ll help you there.
[10:7] And the ripples spread.
Page 11
[11:1] Istanbul 1912
[11:2] I summoned you Jade, because I’m going to need you.
[11:3] In a week’s time I intend to invite an important man to the palace. This man is our enemy. I want you to make him fall in love with you.
[11:4] In desire he’ll lose his head. I know your spells, the poison that flows through your veins, that unquenchable thirst. You’ll lead him to the edge of madness. Just to the edge. Until he serves us.
[11:5] You will have my blessing for this, and the favours conferred on the Sultan’s favourite. Is that satisfactory?
[11:6] And Djoua? She believes she still pleases you.
Page 12
[12:1] Djoua? Too many nights. Her mysteries have evaporated. I’ll leave her to you.
[12:2] Jade?
[12:3] Oh no!
[12:5] Djoua!! Flee!!
[12:6] My daughter, my daughter.
[12:7] Shoot.
Page 13
[13:2] Chaali.
[13:3] Mercy Mistress, spare us.
[13:4] And the child?
[13:5] Jade: Ah yes, little Chaali. It’s true, she already looks like her mother.
[13:6] She’s nothing but a girl. Kill her.
Page 14
[14:1] No, not the child.
[14:2] A Bad dream? Probably the drugs
[14:3] Kim: Where am I?
Amin: In my residence. I hope you find it to your liking here.
[14:4] I’m Amin Doman. I’m interested in my country’s past. Certain aspects of the past, for example the court of Sultan Murati. Perhaps you see why I wanted you to come.
[14:5] Murati… No, No way. You arranged my abduction?
[14:6] I acknowledge my invitation lack courtesy. Kemal proved clumsy. I’ve cultivated a few little illusions about you, but let us continue this conversation during an excellent breakfast.
[14:7] Amin: I believe you could do with one.
Kim: But…
Page 15
[15:1] Kim: What happened to my dress?
Amin: It refines you. Please believe that I wouldn’t permit anyone else to disrobe you.
[15:2] Amin: You are very beautiful. Now, tell me about Jade’s little girl, the one who became the sultan’s favourite.
[15:3] I’ve a photo here presenting her at the height of her splendour, at the time she reigned in the Sultan’s heart. Are you interested?
[15:4] “splendour” is the appropriate word, I believe.
[15:5] Kim: She… She is…
Amin: Completely naked, yes. It was her weapon, and the sultan played perfectly with that weapon.
[15:6] Amin: I received this document from an old friend who’s very familiar with the era, a bookseller, one of many in this town.
Kim: Let me guess. His name is Thesos.
[15:7] Amin: MMm. Very good. You’ve displayed that you’re not an idiot.
Kim: It seems you find that disconcerting. Do you like your women with empty heads?
[15:8] Then you’d better find another? But they’re becoming rarer if you want my advice. Men on the other hand…
Page 16
[16:1] Amin: Men…
Kim: They remain greedy and coarse. Kémal works for you?
[16:2] Amin: Kémal knows what I’m looking for.
Kim: Yes? Which is what?
[16:3] Sultan Murati’s fortune. A fortune intended to help the Germans before World War I. If you’re interested in our country you must know the story already.
[16:4] Turkey chose their side. Given their personalities Enver Pacha and the sultan believed unconditionally in the power of Germany. They believed in the grandeur and their eventual victory. Opposed to this alliance, the French and British ambassadors threw themselves into a grand diplomatic ballet to block the alliance.
[16:5] Sultan Murati proved particularly adept at this game. He played a masterstroke that greatly troubled his enemies.
[16:6] That masterstroke was your grandmother, the naked woman whose feelings remained hidden. She offered without giving, and certain people claimed the genie resided within her.
[16:7] Does this spirit also blow within you Miss Nelson?
[16:8] I… I dreamt a child was murdered.
Page 17
[17:1] I must disturb you.
[17:2] If it’s serious I’m listening.
[17:3] Jade wasn’t content to deal with her rival, she killed the child as well.
[17:4] Little Chaali.
[17:5] I’ve broken my pen. Fetch me another.
[17:6] Youssouf: Jade? No punishment?
Sultan: No punishment.
[17:7] Youssouf.
[17:8] Tomorrow I shall receive Lord Nelson and his wife. We shall dine on the South terrace. The carriage in which they arrive should not leave again.
Page 18
[18:1] What a lovely night.
[18:2] Nelson: I’d not be surprised at the grandeur of the cloth. Our host seems capable of providing everything for this perfect party.
Sultain: Perfect?
[18:3] Sultan: It lacks one element. An element to be presented at the end of the meal. A particular dessert… a recipe that Jade owns.
Nelson: Jade?
[18:4] My favourite. If you’d like she can bring it herself. But I must warn Lady Nelson…
Lady Nelson: Me?
[18:5] Her presence may trouble you. At this hour of the night, Jade has nothing to conceal her mysteries.
[18:6] Lady Nelson: It won’t inconvenience me. And you Harold?
Lord Nelson: I’m with you, my dear.
[18:7] In that case…
Page 19
[19:3] Lady Nelson: She… She’s…
Lord Nelson: Absolutely magnificent if you ask me.
[19:5] Lady Nelson, I would advise the green ones. They are lesser after the others.
[19:6] You speak perfect English miss. I congratulate you.
[19:7] Jade is fluent in several languages. Arabic, English, Russian and German.
[19:8] German. And do you practice it regularly within these walls your excellency?
Page 20
[20:1] These walls are neither blind nor deaf Lord Nelson. They hear all Europe’s noise. And some sounds rise above the others.
[20:2] Sound can become a cacophony. Consider an orchestra where each instrument pierces the ears.
[20:3] The racket could become considerable. Consider a battlefield where each cannon pierces an enemy.
[20:4] Lady Nelson: These are absolutely delicious. Where did you get the idea for the recipe?
Jade: An offering I inherited from my mother.
[20:5] Jade: A delicacy that raises virtues otherwise negligible.
Lady Nelson: Virtues?
[20:6] Yes, aphrodisiac virtues. A door opens to all your dreams. My mother dreamt well every night.
[20:7] Sultan: And you Lady Nelson, do you appreciate some of your dreams?
Lady Nelson: Uh… No-one’s ever asked me that question.
[20:8] Excuse me. I don’t feel very well. Prickles. A sudden hot flush.
Page 21
[21:1] Jade, our guests are staying here tonight. Escort Lady Nelson to her bedroom in order that she may rest.
[21:2] Sultan: Let me assure you, tomorrow morning your vehicle will have been repaired. My men are working on it.
Lord Nelson: I’d not want to put you to any trouble your excellency.
[21:3] It’s no trouble Lord Nelson. As evidence, I’m ready to continue our discussion about the German language. Have you read Goethe’s Conversations With Eckermann? A remarkable book.
[21:4] Jade: Your dress? Do you wear a corset?
Lady Nelson: uh? Why do you ask?
[21:5] Jade: I know that you need it. Are you ready to follow me?
Lady Nelson: But.. uh… that depends.
[21:6] We’re going to take a bath. Take off the clothing suffocating you.
Page 22
[22:1] Jade: There’s no-one here at this time of night. It’s necessary to use it.
Lady Nelson: I don’t know if…
[22:2] Turn around. I’ll unlace you.
[22:3] Jade: Men. There’s always a moment when their talk becomes boring don’t you find?
Lady Nelson: My husband wants to make an agreement with the Sultan. It’s very important to him.
[22:4] Jade; There. Don’t you feel better already?
Lady Nelson: I feel as if I’m breathing, it’s true. But I’m uncomfortable displaying myself in front of you. You’re very beautiful. How do you find me?
[22:5] As beautiful as I expected. Have no fears about that.
[22:6] Come, I’ll attend to you. After the bath I’ll massage you.
[22:7] Your country has experienced a number of setbacks in recent years. You’ve conceded Tripolitaine to Italy. Austria-Hungary has annexed Bosnia-Herzogovina. Bulgaria has asserted independence.,,
Page 23
[23:1] And has formed a coalition with Serbia, Montenegro and Greece to further weaken Turkey in Europe. I know that already. Is it necessary to thank you for reminding me of the humiliations my people have been subjected to?
[23:2] It’s the same in London where the treaty was signed giving victory to my enemies. It doesn’t seem to me that you add to the number of our allies.
[23:3] I think I’m going to faint.
[23:4] Like a little white goose? No, you remain conscious.
[23:5] Just until the moment you beg me to stop.
[23:6] No, the only nation that supports us is Germany. Since Bismark’s time the Berlin government has held big reservations about the question of the East. They’ve never figured among the predators who’ve designs on my country.
[23:7] It seems a man assembled you. It’s unusual, a lone woman occupying herself with another woman.
[pp;24]
[24:1] It’s true Dame Fazila likes changing the rules. The pleasure’s in the game for her.
[24:2] Come here. I want to show you something.
[24:3] See the little coaster passing on the horizon. It’s transporting merchandise.
[24:4] Amin: The boat is mine. It’s fully insured.
Kim: And?
[24:5] In a few seconds…
[24:6] And I’ll claim on the insurance.
[24:7] Let me reassure you. You’re among professionals. The explosion will be attributed to a technical problem covered by the company.
Page 25
[25:1] Kim: But… But there were people on board
Amin: Only three. One doesn’t make an omlette without breaking eggs.
[25:2] I need the money, Miss Nelson. In fact, I’m bankrupt. I have this villa, and then who knows?
[25:3] I carry a name, the honour of an ancient family, whose heritage I’ve squandered. I’ve done so for a considerable time. Now I have no choice.
[25:4] Either I find Sultan Murati’s treasure or I commit suicide. The problem is that life retains a certain charm to my mind. I have scruples about leaving it.
[25:5] Your presence has provided renewed hope. Tomorrow Kémal will take you to Thesos. I’m counting heavily on this meeting. I need to ensure your co-operation.
[25:6] If you refuse, I’ll leave you to Kémal. He will use you as he sees fit. And believe me, the term ‘use’ is apt.
[25:7] Murati’s treasure. That’s why.
Page 26
[26:1] Murati has set aside a war chest destined for Germany.
[26:2] Our informants are certain about that, and the attitude of our host doesn’t belie it. He’s chosen his side. It’ll be difficult to budge him.
[26:3] Are you listening?
Lady Nelson: I’m tired. Can’t we talk about this again in the morning?
[26:4] Lord Nelson: Tired? And that aphrodisiac? It seems it’s taking effect.
Lady Nelson: I beg you Harold, don’t become awkward.
[26:5] She’s easy.
[26:6] Jade: She will lead me to her husband as you desire.
Sultan: Good. Tell me what you felt.
[26:7] Nothing. She is untalented at love. Her husband’s sheets will remain cold tonight.
[26:8] Sultan: While with you Jade…
Jade: While with you master…
Page 27
[27:1] Jade knew all the Sultan’s secrets, but it seems she left nothing, not a souvenir, no papers… All that we know is that she betrayed the Sultan for an English diplomat, Harold Nelson, your grandfather.
[27:2] Lord Nelson died in London. The Sultan’s treasure was never sent to Germany. And we lost all trace of Jade after her arrival in Europe. What happened to her. I’ve puzzled over this enigma for years, and then you turn up…
[27:3]
...appearing naive, but asking the right questions of the right people. The proof is this notebook that we found in your room.
[27:4] You.. You stole it.
[27:5] Bitch.
[27:6] My eyes! I can’t see!
Page 28
[28:1] You didn’t understand what we said, but this time…
[28:2] Hold still.
[28:3] The door! Shut the door!
[28:4] Wait for me. I should benefit as well.
[28:5] Benefit from what? A lesson that’s healthy and clear.
{28:7] Malek
[28:8] We have a problem.
Kémal: What?
Page 29
[29:1] A problem.
[29:2] Ibram: How’s it going?
Kim: You’ve arrived just in time.
[29:3] The hour approaches.
[29:4] Kémal: I’m injured.
Kim: Really?
[29:5] Not enough for my liking.
[29:6] Pull yourself together. Hurry up.
[29:8] One moment.
Page 30
[30:1] You won’t get away with this.
[30:2] Really. WATCH OUT!
[30:4] Over here.
[30:5] Run, I’ll hold them off.
[30:7] Saved.
Page 31
[31:1] My notebook!
[31:3] Too late.
[31:4] Wait. Wait.
[31:5] I can’t go much further. I’m getting a stitch.
[31:6] In here.
Page 32
[32:1] The blindfold. Cover your eyes with the blindfold, and say nothing.
[32:2] Lady Nelson: Where are you taking me?
Jade: Patience.
[32;3] Okay, you can remove the blindfold.
[32:4] Oh!!
[32:5] Lady Nelson: Where are we?
Jade: In one of my secret retreats. Here no-one will disturb us.
[32:6] The desert surrounds us. It’s the best of guards.
[32:7] Lady Nelson: Aren’t you afraid I’ll escape?
Jade: It’s a little late for that. Take your clothes. They’re the type worn at the Sultan’s court to give him pleasure.
Page 33
[33:1] Lady Nelson; But it’s you I want to please.
Jade: If you want to please me, please my master. Never forget that.
[33:2] These are sumptuous, but a little daring aren’t they?
[33:3] They’re the style I wear and you find me beautiful.
[33:4] That’s true. Why deny it?
[33:5] They’ll spend the morning there. My word. I must fetch my photographic equipment.
[33:6] In any case my old Samuel, it’s the time of your life. Don’t ruin it. You’ll be a rich man. Don’t stop! I ask myself what they’re talking about.
[33:7] I see the room in which you seduced me. You’re alone, naked. And cobras! Surrounded by dozens of cobras.
Page 34
[34:1] You rise. Cold death is at your feet. You near the bath.
[34:2] You stop. The water has been transformed into blood. An enormous red spot that repels you.
[34:3] You turn your head. Somewhere in the palace a child is crying. A girl.
[34:4] It’s a disagreeable vision. I’m going to stop smoking.
[34:5] A girl.
[34:6] Jade: You’re keeping some instinct within. That’s good. You’re education isn’t completely broken.
Lady Nelson: My education? And the holds? This harem life humiliates you.
[34:7] You understand nothing. Harem life is not humiliation. It’s an honour.
Page 35
[35:1] Jade: Satisfy a man and you can obtain all the treasures of the earth.
Lady Nelson: All the treasures? Even those of war?
[35:2] Jade: What do you mean? My master the Sultan is already very rich.
Lady Nelson: But he’s making a bad choice in providing aid to Germany. We aren’t your enemies Jade.
[35:3] Jade: It’s at the heart of the harem that one finds the solution. Body and soul are naked. Nothing is hidden. Each knows whether they can count on the other.
Lady Nelson: Prove it to me. Let me see.
[35:4] I will teach you then.
[35:5] Lord Nelson’s car? Okay. In principle we don’t have any objection that his wife regularly meets the Sultan’s favourite.
Page 36
[36:1] Above all there’s national security and the interests of the Empire.
Sir Hawkins: Some would doubt you.
[36:2] I ask myself how your excellency would react on seeing these photos.
[36:3] One of them seems rather explicit to me. When his ladies are under the tent…
[36:4] Now you can remove the blindfold.
[36:6] We’ve finally succeeded in retrieving you. It was not obvious.
[36:7] It would seem you interest many people, and not just because of your beautiful body.
[36:8] She had this on her.
Page 37
[37:1] Fazila: Where did you find this document.
Kim: At Thesos in one of his books. The man in the photo is Ebu Sarki.
Fazlia: Yes. Oh well..
[37:2] Kim: I had a notebook that they’ve stolen. The notebook was my mother’s. I first found his name there, followed by a code. Who is Ebu Sarki?
Fazila: One of the most powerful men in the country, but he keeps himself hidden. This photo is one of the few taken of him.
[37:3] Fazila: Some people say…
Kim: Yes?
Fazila: That he lives at the heart of a harem similar to those once deployed around our Sultans.
[37:4] A harem? In the present?
[37:5] Fazila: It’s a nice idea, isn’t it? Tell me, the ones who stole your notebook, I need to know more about them. Thesos works for them?
Kim: Yes
[37:6] In that case their enquiries are advancing. We must predict their movements, and I don’t like predicting. It’s not convenient for a woman, neither for love nor hate.
[37:7] Fazila: Ziria, take our guest to room 27. She can rest there.
Ziria; Room 27, but it’s…
[37:8] Occupied. I know, but I don’t think our friend will bear a grudge.
Page 38
[38:1] Kim: You.
Ibram: Yes. I tried to follow you, but I was a little late. We’re here together, that’s the main thing.
[38:2] Kim: You’ve been hurt.
Ibram: If they made you wait it was because Lady Fazila was treating me. She has many talents.
[38:3] Kim: How did you save me?
Ibram: I was watching Thesos’ shop. I knew that Kémal wouldn’t finihs without taking you.
[38:4] Kim: You saved my life. I’m in your debt.
Ibram: It’s possible to work it off.
[38:5] Kim: But how? Help me.
Ibram: I believe I’ve an idea.
[38:6] Kim: I know, I’ll kiss you.
Ibram: It’s a start.
Kim: I’ll undress.
Ibram: It’s getting better.
Kim: I’ll work on you with my mouth.
Ibram: The mouth is perfect.
[38:8] Well?
Page 39
[39:1] As you asked, I helped their frolics with a little oil. It’s going well.
[39:2] She’s enjoying herself. You’ll be able to guide it as it suits you.
[39:3] I see other places for her education.
[39:4] We shall send her to this man.
[39:5] My mother died last year. In her desk was her notebook regarding my grandmother, the woman who was the Sultan’s favourite. That was a revelation to me. My mother never spoke of it. I wanted to learn more, so I came here. I didn’t know anything about treasure.
[39:6] In the notebook I came across the name Ebu Sarki. Along with a code. I tried to discover what it meant and ended up finding…
[39:7] Kim: You’ll never guess. It was an account number for a Swiss bank. The account held £300, no more, no less.
Ibram: Hardly life changing. And you know who deposited the money?
[39:8] Kim: No.
Master Ibram, quick, hide.
Page 40
[40:1] Amin Doman insists on seeing our mistress. They’re meeting in the large room downstairs.
[40:2] Amin: I’m very disappointed Fazila. I’ve never needed to complain about your services before now, but now it appears you have no regard for your customers.
Fazila: Has one of my girls displeased you? Choose another. Without charge.
[40:3] Amin: The laws of hospitality.
Fazila: Don’t talk to me of hospitality.
[40:4] Fazila: You who abuse the sanctity of thos house by kidnapping one of my guests. How dare you?
Amin: Dare?
[40:5] A man who pays can dare anything here. Have you forgotten?
[40:6] Yes, you’ve forgotten. Permit me to refresh your memory.
[40:7] I need this girl for a moment.
[40:8] She’s yours. Use her how you will.
Page 41
[41:1] Yes, Kémal has a revenge to take.
[41:2] And I’m not going to waste the opportunity. On your knees.
[41:3] No. Let them be.
[41:4] Let us understand one another. This young lady, Kim Nelson, you will tell me where she’s hidden.
[41:5] I’ll ignore the implication. As far as I know she’s not in my premises.
[41:6] Kémal: I want to hear you scream.
[41:7] Kim Nelson. I must find her.
[41:8] No, mercy, mercy.
Page 42
[42:1] Kim: Where are we going?
Ibram: To meet the one man powerful enough to help you.
[42:2] Edu Sarki.
[42:3] Kim: You know him?
Ibram: Lady Fazila worked for him at one time. It’s advantage others don’t have.
[42:4] Ebu Sarki. I’m astounded.
[42:6] There, on the pier.
[42:7] Ibram: Who is it?
Kim: No, nothing, I thought I saw a shadow.
Page 43
[43:1] A strange shadow that suddenly passed. Both familiar and distant.
[43:5] I believe the photos have had their little effect. In any case, I’ve carried out my task.
Page 44
[44:1] Mustapha: Here’s the money. You could have double if you’d wanted.
It’s becoming serious.
[44:2] Mustapha: It’s her. And for you not much will change. It’s a question of continuing to spy on the young English lady and providing new photographs. Sufficiently explicit.
Like those in the tent?
[44:3] Mustapha: My informant will advise us of the places you can operate.
Yes, dreadfully effective your man. Where did you find him?
[44:4] None of your business. You have enough information for your purposes.
[44:5] That’s what you think you old sod.
[44:6] Are you rinsing your eyes Mustapha?
[44:7] Mustapha: I was verifying the quality of the photographs.
Jade: Really.
[44:8] Jade: How do you find us here, both of us? Desirable, I’d hope.
Mustapha: The folk at the British embassy appreciate them, it seems.
Page 45
[45:1] It seems isn’t enough. I want them to be powerless with the evidence. I want the photos to explode in their faces.
[45:2] When the time comes I’ll let you know where your photographer should be. I’ll arrange passage for him to the heart of the harem.
[45:3] Jade: It would be best if the husband reacts, and that’s all that I’m waiting for.
Butler: Lord Nelson
[45:4] Sir Hawkins has sent this document. He awaits you in the greenhouse. He said you’d understand why.
[45:6] Lord Nelson: Your excellency.
Sir Hawkins: I’ve been waiting for you Nelson.
Page 46
[46:1] Sir Hawkins: A troubling document, isn’t it? And it’s not the first.
Lord Nelson: What!
[46:2] Sir Hawkins: There’s a species of rat I met in my office on Thursday. He has a talent for scratching the bottom of dustbins. All the same, a good photograph of the occasion.
Lord Nelson: The photograph, it was him!
[46:3] The photographs. The first set shows a two young women in a tent, arms on top, arms below, half naked.
[46:4] The one in your hands displays a new arrival in the Sultan’s harem. You know her, I believe.
